Make a Sweatshirt into a Skirt :)

So I had a sweatshirt that was a little to big on me. loved the color and it was comfy, but i would never wear it out because i just looked like a frump. I once was sitting on the couch and had this sweatshirt over my lap and thought, I bet this would make a cute skirt. I like that the band was big on the bottom so i thought i would try it out.

So First i cut off the sleeves. (now after i was done i realized that it kind of poofed on the sides so i would suggest not just cutting off the sleeves but cut it to a straight line all the way down.)

Next, I cut from the shoulder, thru the collar, and out the other side.

I then slipped it on and determined the length. figure out where you want the length to fall then add about a half inch to an inch on top for the seam.

Turn it inside out and sew up the sides. (this is where i found out it was poofy on the edges and trimmed it down and re-sewed.) I used a zig zag stitch, but im not much of a sewer so im not 100% what you should use.

Now you have what looks like a skirt that is not tight on top. I folded over the the top and sewed about 3/4 inch of the way down, leaving room inside the seam (to be able to add a draw string or elastic) and leaving it not fully sewed up to be able to insert the elastic or draw string. Me personally, used elastic. I measured around my waist by putting the elastic around me, pulled it a little tighter than my actual waist and put it in the space i left around the top of the skirt.

sewed the elastic together then sewed up the little opening i left in the top. VOILA

Im thinking about adding a hoodie pocket to the front.
This same way to make a skirt you can easily make it in to a tube top as well. if you leave it like the skirt and pulled it up, its obviously more of a loose tank top, but i did this same thing to a different sweatshirt and just cut the sides a little more than i did to the skirt and i had a shirt :)

Not to special or anything just wanted to share it cuz i thought it was neat :)
